This medieval humpbacked bridge is formed by arches and has risen on the ruins of what was an ancient Roman bridge destroyed by a flood in 1640. In the second half of the eighteenth century it was rebuilt by the Casalini family and was used to lead to the church of San Donato, built by S. Pier. Damiani, which no longer exists today.
The bridge was also called “della Signora”, because at that time there was a noblewoman at the head of the Casalini family. Instead, the original name of the bridge comes from the ancient church that was reached along the viaduct.
