Ranchio

SARSINABURGHS
Where are the parish church of St. Bartholomew and the Abbey of St Ambrose
Ranchio is a small town located in the valle del Borello, in the municipality of Sarsina. The village is perched on a mass of sandstone and from the height of its 333 meters dominates the valley.
This place has a long history behind it, in fact it has been witnessed since the Bronze Age and its events have always revolved around the Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Bartolomeo and Abbazia di Sant’Ambrogio. The Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Bartolomeo is located in the center of the village and its style combines Renaissance and Baroque components. Inside there is an altarpiece, created by Michele Valbonesi, which depicts the Martyrdom of San Bartolomeo.
The ancient abbey was a Benedictine-Camaldolese monastery where a precious liturgical book was written which is now preserved in Baltimore. Of this structure there are only a few testimonies and in addition to the famous missal were found sculptural material, fragments of a late antique sarcophagus and traces of the apse.
