The chiesa and convento francescano di San Piero in Bagno boast ancient origins. Both were built starting in 1552, following the donation to the Franciscan friars of a plot of land, by the community of San Piero in Bagno. The convent, the church and the bell tower were destroyed by the earthquake of 1918 and the reconstruction works started again in 1919. The church was not accessible until 1941, when it was once again open for worship.

The building is composed of an elegant structure with three naves, with glazed and stained windows. The seventeenth-century organ of the Venetian Gaetano Callido is kept here. It was restored in 1948 and enlarged in 1981. In 1978 the complex underwent a renovation: on this occasion the presbytery area was modified to conform to the new liturgical norms, and ancient artifacts were recovered, such as columns, capitals and sculptures.
