The Valgianna community develops on the outskirts of San Piero in Bagno, on the slopes of Mount Comero. It is a recent village that dates back to the twenties and consists of only 343 inhabitants.
The church was commissioned by the bishop of Sansepolcro, to make the population of Valgianna and Fossatone independent, which thickened in the parish of Crocesanta. Designed by the surveyor Vitaliano Pazzi, it was inaugurated in 1956 and in 1968 was dedicated to San Giuseppe Artigiano.
