Chiesa di San Silvestro a Fontechiusi

BAGNO DI ROMAGNA • CHURCHES
Raised to parish church in 1302

The church dedicated to San Silvestro, situated in a still inhabited and active countryside, was owned by the Camaldolese monks who, in 1302, endowed it with the baptismal font and raised it to a parish church.

Renovated in 1933, after suffering serious damage due to the earthquake of 1918, the church retains some important features: the chapel dated 1515 and dedicated to the Madonna is a triumph of decorations in pietra serena. Also of great value is the holy water stoup made of white marble with the lily of bottega comacina (IX-XII century) located on a sandstone base from the 19th century. Also noteworthy are the tabernacle with a sandstone frame, a round arch, a carved wooden door and a sixteenth-century altarpiece depicting the Madonna col Bambino and the saints Giacomo e Nicola.
