Volcano of Monte Busca

The smallest "volcano" in Italy

Busca is a mountain of the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines located between the high val Montone and the high Val Tramazzo. The massif is characterized by the presence of a perennial flame, active since before 1500 and erroneously called "volcano".

A burning fountain, this is the smallest volcano in Italy. The perennial flame is due to the emanation of gaseous hydrocarbons which, in contact with oxygen, remain perpetually on. The flames that emerge from the subsoil, in the middle of an uncultivated field, create a particular suggestion.
