{"id":3308,"date":"2020-12-30T14:10:49","date_gmt":"2020-12-30T13:10:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.romagnatoscanaturismo.it\/?page_id=3308"},"modified":"2023-06-29T16:10:25","modified_gmt":"2023-06-29T14:10:25","slug":"history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.romagnatoscanaturismo.it\/en\/territory\/history\/","title":{"rendered":"History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The most ancient testimonies of the history of these lands are found in\u00a0<strong>Sarsina<\/strong>, a city of ancient origins, founded by Umbrian\u00a0<strong>populations between the 6th and 4th centuries BC<\/strong>\u00a0and later conquered by Rome in 266 BC Also in roman times, the city of\u00a0<strong>Mevaniola<\/strong>\u00a0was also established near\u00a0<strong>Galeata<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the Middle Ages, a large part of Romagna Toscana was subject to the rule of the Guidi Counts. Tredozio, where the dynasty was born, later became their strong point in the territory. The Guidi domination extended to\u00a0<strong>Marradi and Dovadola<\/strong>, where still today stands their Fortress, which represents the fortification of the Counts best preserved in Romagna.<\/p>\n<p><strong>At the end of the fifteenth century<\/strong>\u00a0the power over these lands passed under the rule of the\u00a0<strong>Medici<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0<strong>Republic of Florence<\/strong>: Tredozio became a Florentine bridgehead, as was\u00a0<strong>Marradi<\/strong>. In 1564\u00a0<strong>Cosimo I De Medici<\/strong>\u00a0had the citadel of\u00a0<strong>Terra del Sole<\/strong>\u00a0erected according to the Renaissance urban canons.<\/p>\n<p>The territory of Romagna Toscana remained under the dominion of the\u00a0<strong>Granducato of Tuscany<\/strong>\u00a0until 1859 and with the\u00a0<strong>Unification of Italy<\/strong>\u00a0it was annexed to the<strong>\u00a0province of Florence<\/strong>.
