The Pro Loco of Castrocaro proposes the charm of a magical rite in the evocative Fortress, with guided tours to the Historical – Archaeological Museum by Elio Caruso and medieval animations around the fire.
In the Middle Ages the firing of the fire was a propitiatory rite: the last three days of February and the first three of March, in the Avemaria, the countryside were dotted with fires kept lit for hours to «far lume a marzo», or to enlighten the away in March that would bring spring and the magical awakening of nature. The fire was used to burn the winter and with it all the influences and negative events of the season just passed.
