It was established in 1987 to commemorate the figure of Carlo Alberto Cappelli Rocchigiano known throughout the world for being the most important private organizer of prose shows that Italy has ever had.
He managed six primary companies and in the world of opera he was undisputed and unforgettable protagonist; he was in fact President of the Filodrammatica of Bologna and Superintendent of the Arena of Verona.
The Prize – a large plate by Dario Valli in which the symbols of the opera are depicted, an open book with the musical pentagram and a theater mask, and the historical symbols of Rocca San Casciano – is an international award given annually to great artists of the theater and music world.
In the magical setting of Piazza Garibaldi have been awarded among the many protagonists of the world of music, theater and cinema: Luciano Pavarotti (1987), Carla Fracci (1995), Ennio Morricone (1996), Franca Valeri (1998) and Pupi Avati (2007).
