The Church of Santo Stefano in Montevecchio is one of the main country churches of Rocca San Casciano.

In fact, together with the Church of Berleta, it composed an autonomous parish. The presence of the church and the adjacent farmhouse was justified by the existence, in the same area, of a castle belonged to the family of the Guidi Counts (XII – XIII century).

On September 20, 1440, the people of Montevecchio submitted to the Florentine Republic.

In 1833 the Parish of Santo Stefano in Montevecchio had 146 inhabitants. The religious building today was rebuilt in the 20th century, but traces of the original structure are still present.

It is possible to reach it by car heading along the SS67 towards Portico di Romagna and in Marzolo (in summer a typical river bathing resort) follow the signs for via Santo Stefano or on foot from the village of Rocca San Casciano along the CAI 431 path.
