Abbazia di Santa Maria a Susinana in ancient times was a Vallombrosian monastic complex in whose cemetery rested Maghinardo Pagani, quoted by Dante in the Inferno.
The monastery was destroyed in 1137 and when, in 1600, it was elevated to the rank of priory, it was completely renovated and transformed. For this occasion the interiors were enriched with remarkable pictorial and decorative works. Valuable are the wooden choir and the baptismal font, made of ceramics according to the Liberty style typical of the early 1900s.
