Porta Romana and Porta Fiorentina were the points of access to the fortress of Terra Del Sole.
Porta Romana, which is turned towards Forlì, then towards Romagna, is dominated by the Governor’s Castle or Capitano della Piazza. A drawbridge was placed in defense of the Porta. Porta Fiorentina, however, is turned towards Florence and the lands of Tuscany and was also defended by an imposing railway gate, a drawbridge and a gate. The way that opens once this door was overcome was strategically tortuous so as to make it difficult for an assault.
