The parrocchia di Santa Maria Assunta in Balze is located in the municipality of Verghereto on Monte Fumaiolo. In 1785 the Pieve di Santa Maria in Vignola was closed and its translation into the Chiesa di Balze, which later took on the title of Santa Maria Assunta in Balze.
The portico that precedes the church is covered by a wooden structure and by tables. The internal structure consists of a nave and two side chapels and ends with a semicircular apse. The parsonage was built around 1800 and then enlarged with other spaces on the south-west side. In 2012 work began on the consolidation of the entire property, an intervention necessary to make the foundations more solid and to stop the failures that have emerged over the years.
