The church was formerly used as a hospice for the Camaldolese monks belonging to the Trivium of Montecoronaro. In 1299 it was converted into a place of worship and in 1549 it was aggregated to the Abbazia di Bagno di Romagna.
When it underwent restoration work, in 1902, the sacristy, the rectory, the loggia and the well were also expanded. In 1990 it was restored again following the severe state of neglect that had been perpetuated for years.
